Good day all!
I managed to put together a small edit of our trip to China over Chinese New Year. We explored a little bit of Guangzhou and Foshan. Lots of eating, some hiking, sight-seeing and more!
Many people had told me their opinion of Guangzhou and what they liked and disliked. However, I went with no expectations and had a really great time exploring in the short time that we had.
Lots and lots of walking. On average about 15 km in total per day. Thanks to my watch!
We couldn’t get the bike app to work and unfortunately were not able to jump on one of the many bicycles that litter the city. Each bike has a specific app that you have to download and my girlfriend tried but wasn’t able to get it to work. Perhaps next time!
I spoke quite a bit of Cantonese in Guangzhou which made sense because this was where the language originated from and it made me feel at home hearing a lot of Cantonese between all the Mandarin.
It would definitely be possible to learn either language in Guangzhou but many of the local people will still speak Cantonese first and foremost. Shenzhen would be a better option if you’re strictly learning Mandarin.
Going to China definitely makes me feel excited.
Being right next door over in Hong Kong, I feel I want to make the most of time being so close to China and explore as much as can while I can. It also helps stoke the motivation for speaking Chinese more fluently.
I’m excited for the next China adventure which will be at the end of this month.
We’ll be heading to Guilin (桂林) for a 4 or 5 days.
Super keen to get some footage there as from what I’ve seen it’s picturesque.
I hope you enjoy the video!
